Hey, I’m Michael.
I’m at The University of Alabama
which is known as the
Capstone of Higher Education. and I’m here to find
out why. What does it mean
to be the Capstone
of Higher Education? I would say being the
Capstone of Higher Education
means that you prioritize and you
take time to study as well as
you know, work hard, play hard. Did you know
that some or our
UA alum have done some
pretty incredible things? Chuck Gordon, a
University of Alabama alum produced the movies,
“Die Hard” and “Field of Dreams” I didn’t know that. What do you think it means
to be the Capstone of Higher Education? A place that you come and learn,
and you become friends with
people that you’re surrounded
with and you get to make connections UA Law School Graduate,
Hugo Black served on the U.S. Supreme
Court, Did you know that? No, I didn’t. He’s a pretty important
historical figure, I would
have to say and he went to
The University of Alabama.
That’s pretty awesome. I think beling the Capstone
of Higher Education is all about the opportunities
and preparation for the
real world that Alabama provides. Jerry Pate won the 1976
U.S. Open What have you done?
Have you won anything like that? Definitely a goal for me. It just means we’re
on a higher standard
than everybody else.
We have to progress more. We have to do
more than others. We have to make sure
we’re on top at all times. UA Graduate Jimmy Wales
invented Wikipedia. Isn’t that pretty awesome? Pretty cool. How about I sit there and
you ask me a couple of about the University? I think, personally, it means
to me that we are constantly growing
in our education, we are constantly being
pushed toward excellence
at all times. More than 11-Thousand
students took part in
service learning courses led by faculty members from
every college on campus.
How cool is that? That’s pretty awesome. The University of Alabama
just prepares its students for
a bright future ahead of college UA alum Paul B. Brice wrote for such television
shows as Laverne and
Shirley. Laverne and Shirley,
one of my favorites. I think there are
oppotunities, not only in the academic
realms but there are activities.
You’ve got professional
organizations. So, what does it mean to
be the Capstone of
Higher Education? I think it stands for
awesome students like
UA alum Harper Lee who wrote the Pulitizer
Prize winning novel,
“To Kill A Mockingbird.” Oh, wow, that’s very cool. I think it means a place
that you feel comfortable learning and growing
in your knowledge of whatever you want to do
with your life. The Professor of
Creative Writing,
Hudson Strode, he was knighted by the King
of Sweden. Have you been knighted by any
kind of king at all? Unfortunately not. Well, can you do your best
Swedish accent for us? Ummm….(laughing) (Swedish accent) Hello, my name
is Michael. I’m from Sweden. That’s about all I’ve got. Can you name any other actors
in “Die Hard”? Ummm…. Oh, too late. Sorry. Honestly, it has a lot to do
with education, but I think at the end of the
day it comes down to you are
surrounded by community. Do you have any interesting
facts about UA? Yea, I knew Winston Groom
graduated from here, the author
of Forrest Gump The author of Forrest Gump? That’s right. Pretty fancy. Pretty awesome. So, there you go.
I hope you learned a little
something about why UA is considered The Capstone
of Higher Education.
Roll Tide!
