[MUSIC PLAYING] Anytime you receive an award
like the Truman Scholarship, it is life changing. The Truman Scholarship is the
pre-eminent national fellowship for college juniors
who want to have a career in public service. Getting a Truman
Scholarship means that your chances of actually
being able to give back to your community in a
really big and impactful way in the future has
greatly increased. I walked in, and I
was just expecting it to be another class. And then, yeah, the
provost walks in and– Congratulations Nooran. I was just shocked. I just wasn’t expecting it. It just means so
much to me, and it means so much to my
family and our story. I’m a third generation
Palestinian refugee. I definitely don’t know
in their wildest dreams if they imagined that their
grandkid or their daughter was going to receive a
scholarship like this. So it’s the first thing
I thought of actually, just my parents. And it’s the reason
I started crying. I just feel like everything
seems more attainable now that I’m being
recognized for my passion. It was a really
special moment for me to see somebody who
had worked so hard and has such passion and
commitment to public service be recognized for her efforts. It just feels like
a dream come true. I keep saying
that, but it really does feel like a
dream come true. [MUSIC PLAYING]
