The Problem with Schooling in Gloriavale | Q&A

what subjects where you offered in school
and how different do you think school in Gloriavale would be to schools
outside of Gloriavale okay the subjects I was offered were like
your base spectrum so like Maths, English science, social studies, art I think the
problem with the education in Gloriavale is that there are only certain career
pathways set up for men and then women are expected to be domestic slaves so I
wouldn’t have been allowed to have a career or explore that for myself
and so the opportunity loss is quite high so I mean most of you here
you’ll be able to once you graduate high school you’ll be thinking okay
I’m gonna go to college maybe or am I gonna start a business. who here has
thought about what they’re gonna do after school ooh I like it I like it
forward-thinking audience that we have here um I wasn’t really allowed to think
about what I would do after school so that’s the biggest difference. men have
typical duties like stereotypical male duties like mechanic or farming or
veterinarian or running a business women have stereotypical female roles
like working in an office or raising the children or kindergarten teaching or
sewing or cooking or cleaning and I feel like I would not have been able to truly
figure out who I am and learn new skills and kind of explore the world and
adventure is fun like it’s kind of key to happiness so I think that’s the main
difference with the education in Gloriavale
