WE HAVE POLICE OFFICERS FROM MINNEAPOLIS AND ST. PAUL WITH US HERE TODAY TAKING DONATIONS FOR FRAZIER. THE ORGANIZATION HELPS TO PROVIDE SERVICE TO KIDS AND ADULTS LIVING WITH AUTISM. ONE OF THE OFFICERS IS USING HIS OWN LIFE EXPERIENCES TO HELP EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY ABOUT AUTISM. YOU WILL SEE THE OFFICER LATER IN THE SHOW AND HE HAS TWO SONS ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM AND HE BEGAN COP AUTISM COP EDUCATION OR CARE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AND IT TEACHES OFFICERS HOW TO MORE EFFECTIVELY COMMUNITY WITH PEOPLE WITH AUTISM. HOW MANY OF YOU ARE SOMETIMES SCARED OF POLICE? Reporter: EVERY DAY ON THE JOB IS FULL OF THE UNEXPECTED WITH THE OFFICER. A LOT OF YOU DON’T LIKE LOUD NOISES SO IF I BLEW MY WHISTLE, YOU WOULD NOT BE HAPPY. Reporter: BUT ROUTINE IS THE KEY FOR THESE YOUNGSTERS, EACH LIVING WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER AND PROCESS INFORMATION IN UNIQUE WASTE AND OFTEN STRUGGLE WITH SOCIAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS. I HAVE A FEAR AS A PARENT THAT IF ONE OF MY BOYS HAD CONTACT WITH A POLICE OFFICER AND THEY DIDN’T UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS GOING ON, THE REACTIONS ONE OF MY KIDS WOULD HAVE MAY MISREPRESENT THEMSELVES TO ANOTHER OFFICER. Reporter: SEEING THE NEED FOR INCREASED RAINING, OFFICER ROB ZIMK STARTED THE “CARE” PROGRAM, EDUCATING OFFICERS ABOUT THE BEHAVIORS THEY MAY SEE TO DE-ESCALATE THE SITUATION. WE WANT TO MEET WITH THE KIDS AND SAY, HEY, DON’T BE AFRAID OF POLICE. Reporter: AND EDUCATING STUDENTS ABOUT THE ROLE OF AN OFFICER. I THINK IT MAKES ME HAPPIER BECAUSE YOU PROTECT AMERICA. OFFICER ZINK SAID IT’S HELPFUL FOR FAMILIES TO INTRODUCE THEIR LOVED ONES WITH AUTISM TO LOCAL POLICE OFFICERS TO CREATE A BOND. OTHER DEPARTMENTS WHO HAD SEEN THE PROGRAM ARE USING THE “CARE” PROGRAM TO TRAIN THEIR OFFICERS. THAT’S GREAT. IT REALLY IS. AND FRAZIER’S ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO OPEN ENOUGH LOCATION SOS NO FAMILY WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE FURTHER THAN 35 MILES TO RECEIVE SERVICES, AND VOLUNTEERS FROM MINNEAPOLIS AND ST. PAUL POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND FRAZIER ARE ANSWERING THE PHONES RIGHT NOW GOING TO THE TUG-OF-WAR EVENT AND BOTH DEPARTMENTS WILL BE ON JUNE 10 — 10 OR 11? 10. OKAY. ED TO MAKE SURE. AND THERE ARE NINE TEAMS TO SEE WHICH CITY WINS. AND I WAS TALKING WITH OFFICER ZINK AND THEY SAID AT A HAD A REAL IMPACT ON HELPING HIS FAMILY, AND THEY NEED TO COLLECT DONATIONS, AND WE HAVE POLICE OFFICERS HERE AND STARKEY IS MATCHING UP TO $20,000 IN DONATIONS TODAY. SO IF YOU CALL NOW OR GO ONLINE OR DONATE $50 THEY WILL TURN IT INTO 100, THEY WILL DOUBLE THAT. AND YOU CAN PICK A TEAM OR A SIDE. AND AS AMELIA SAID, MARK YOUR CALENDARS.
