Rutgers Future Scholars Program Graduates First Class

Rutgers Future Scholars is a
pre-college mentoring program for underserved students. The program
provides six years of mentoring to students from inner cities and if
they’re admitted to Rutgers University, they come tuition free. It feels amazing to be the first group to graduate from the Rutgers Future Scholars Program. I guess it feels unreal. We talked about it a lot but now it’s actually here. I feel like there’s definitely challenges along the way, trying to stay on task and stay
focused. Even though I had a couple of, you know, setbacks, I knew that if I work hard enough I’ll be back on track. When I was a sophomore,
I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter and she motivated me to finish
college. I think the thing that I’ve learned most about myself is that nothing can ever stop me. I learned that I’m very resilient and very persistent. I have grown so much since I first started. I think I’m just very proud that I found my way. I think I’m most proud of the fact that I have been on the Dean’s List every semester since I’ve been at Rutgers. I don’t know where I
would be without the Rutgers Future Scholars Program. The Future Scholars
Program has definitely impacted my life. I was able to build more friendships, I
gained confidence. Coming to Rutgers tuition free for four years is such a blessing, not even just because of the scholarship that they gave us but because they honed us into, you know, really exceptional scholars Rutgers Scholars Program is definitely a family that I’m proud to be a part of. At the end of the day it’s gonna feel like everything that we’ve done for the past
ten years is worth it We actually did it. I am a product of the Rutgers
Scholars Program and it’s just proof that it actually works in real life. Although I feel like I have so much more to learn, I feel like I got what I could
get from Rutgers. I’m ready to go into the real world and show them what a
great education I got here.
