QMUL International Scholars

QMUL International Scholars

We are a very international organisation;
I’m told that we have about 60 nationalities represented here this evening. That may sound a lot and indeed, it is, but
it’s fewer than half of the number of nationalities that we have at Queen Mary University of London. I’m Meghna Chandra, I am from India. My name is Turan Gafarli, I’m from Azerbaijan. Hi, I am Shankar. I am doing a Master’s in Big Data Science
and I’m from Pakistan. I want to emphasize that we are, and will
continue to be an institution which is completely committed to the internationalisation of higher
education. I was given a Norton Rose Fulbright Scholarship. It’s funded by a law firm. Receiving the scholarship itself was very
overwhelming, so that kind of gave me that push that yes, I should do it now, I should
definitely pursue it. The kind of exposure that I’ve gotten here
is unmatchable and I really love it. I’m awarded with the Governmental Scholarship
of Republic of Azerbaijan. Well it was, like a major decision for me
to come to Queen Mary. Without the scholarship, I wouldn’t be here
so I think it was a major decision. It was a very stressful month for me, while
waiting for the scholarship and when it came out, obviously we celebrated with my family. So we value a mixture of traditions and cultures
we have at Queen Mary, whether they derive from a mile away in east London or from a
thousand or ten thousand miles away across the world. So once again, congratulations to all the
scholars here. I wish you every success, continuing success
in your programmes, and to our sponsors and partners. Thank you for coming. Thank you for the work you do with us, along
with our continuing.
