NHSC Scholarship Application Submission Help
Hello and welcome. There are just a few weeks left until the
application cycle for the National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program closes on
May 14! This short video will provide you with the
key steps you should take when preparing to apply.
Ill begin with a brief overview of the program. Then Ill share some tips for completing
your application. The National Health Service Corps Scholarship
Program is widely respected, and competitive, and is a federal program.
The program provides financial support to health professional students who are committed
to practicing, as primary care providers, in communities across the country that have
limited or no access to health care. The program provides up to four years of scholarship
to include full payment of tuition, fees, a monthly living allowance, and other educational
costs such as books, instruments, and health insurance.
In exchange for these benefits, award recipients agree to practice in an underserved community.
for a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years in a national health service corps
approved site . Our scholars earn the same competitive salary
and benefits as any new hire! Now, lets review the application process.
Well begin with the eligibility requirements. In order to apply:
You must be a United States citizen (born or naturalized), or a United States national.
You must be enrolled, or have been accepted, as a full time student at a fully accredited
health professional program, located in the United States, the District of Columbia, or
a U.S. territory. You must be pursuing a medical degree
and or training in one of the following primary care disciplines:
 Pediatrics, Internal Medicine,
 Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology,
 Psychiatry, or General Practice Dentistry.
In addition, Primary care nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, and physician assistants
are also eligible to apply. Your classes must begin no later than
September 30, 2013. You must be free from any Federal judgment
liens. You cannot be delinquent on any Federal
debt. You must be free from existing service
commitments. If youve responded yes to all of these
eligibility requirements, you are ready to apply.
The key to submitting a complete application is to begin early!
Start by reading the Application and Program Guidance for school year 2013 to 2014. It
can be downloaded directly from our website at NHSC.HRSA.GOV.
The guidance provides detailed instructions on how to apply and where to find relevant
resources. After you have read the Application and Program
Guidance, begin to gather all the required documents,
in advance, and save them to your computer. This will help you avoid having to waste time
searching for files while completing your online application.
Some of these documents include proof of U.S. citizenship, transcripts, your resume, and
other supporting information. Completing the application will take time.
Before you submit your application, review everything! Check for completeness and legibility.
Heres a helpful tip save your documents as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file, so that the
formatting is not lost. Documents that are illegible, or are uploaded
to the wrong section, may result in your application being deemed incomplete and ineligible for
consideration. We definitely do not want that to happen to
you! The National Health Service Corps is a wonderful
program! If you are seeking a rewarding career, and an opportunity to make a significant difference
in the lives of the nations most vulnerable, we invite you to apply!
The application deadline is May 14, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. eastern standard time. Thank you for your interest in the National
Health Service Corps!
