– I will be checking your grades as the leaders will be
checking your grades. Do you have any questions of me? – [Students] No, sir. – So the club that’s in
the library right now is our first JROTC club. – I joined this program
to be a good leader, out of school and in school. I also want to probably, one day, join the Army or go to the
Marines, and I wanna be prepared. – When I started JROTC, I
was looking for a club that majority of our students
would be interested in. So, I reached out to Mansfield High School and they were willing to
come and mentor our students. And so that’s kinda how we began. – Well, first of all, I was
excited that she contacted us, you know, Mansfield High School. Because, I think, she’d
seen something in us and I was willing and able to
want to help young students because if you reach a
youth, you reach the world. It makes our school
district a better place and it makes them be able to do better as they reach high school,
in their high school years, and find something that
they wanna be a part of. – I felt like a lot of our
students need the structure, they need the discipline,
and the confidence for them to build the
confidence within themselves. – We feed the kids what they
need, and then they lead it. And, basically, kids want
you to be out their way. They want to show you what they can do. – I like everything about it. Everybody’s very happy, very cheerful. We help each other when you need help learning a step or a skill. We’re there for each
other, to help each other. – I’m invested into it
because I love our students. There’s so many of ’em that I believe that if they had the leadership,
if they had the discipline, if they had the family,
I think so many of ’em would go further in life. And just their overall
lives are being changed by this program. (light upbeat music)
