Moorabool Shire Council – Youth Lifeguard Scholarship Program

Well, I sort of wanted to go for a part time job over the summer and I had a bit more time up my sleeve. And I’ve always been around water, swimming, triathlon and competition so I thought life guarding would be great and I was really lucky to get the position The benefits of us getting this are showing that younger people can do harder jobs like being a life guard and qualifications that you can use in everyday like, you get a working with children’s which you don’t need to review for 5 years and you get first aid to help the community if something goes wrong outside the pool My favourite part of life guarding in Moorabool is having chats with all the locals And all the kids who come out to the pool every weekend and it’s really good to meet new people
As a life guard I feel I’ve definitely, my leadership skills have grown
I’ve learned how to take control of the situation And when I need to be assertive and speak up I would definitely say just to go for it
It’s been one of the most rewarding experiences for me as an individual and it’s been really exciting for all of us as scholarship applicants
and being successful is something that’s really really awesome. The benefits are definitely that I’ve learned invaluable life skills that I wouldn’t have been able to learn in a different work environment and I think it’s going to be beneficial for me in future careers and the rest of my life to be able to take that into the future Trying a different career I’ve always loved being in the water so I thought hey I’ll give it a go I’ve always wanted to be like
a swim teacher so if that doesn’t work I’ve got this to fall back on
