Mission Driven: Sons and Daughters Scholarship Program

When you are part of the Mount Sinai Medical
Center family, so are your loved ones. As such, children of the employees of Mount
Sinai have benefited from the Sons and Daughters scholarship program, which allows them to
realize their dreams and claim their place as productive members of society. As a teaching hospital, recognizing the achievements
of the children of our Mount Sinai employees is just another way we show our support for
academic excellence. This gathering of bright, energetic, and enthusiastic
students happens once a year, thanks to one of Mount Sinai’s fundraising arms, the Young
Presidents Club. For decades, these hospital-endowed scholarships
have helped put well-deserving students through college or graduate school. The Sons and Daughters scholarship gives us
one more way to show our employees, your parents, how much we appreciate them and all they do
to make our medical center what it is. It also gives us an opportunity to impact
our community, by helping you to realize your dreams and to claim your place as productive
members of our society. The students are asked to talk about their
parents and about what Mount Sinai means to their family and to their community. To me, Mount Sinai serves as a sanctuary,
not only to the patients within it, but also the staff members who work in the hospital. Not only is Mount Sinai a place that welcomes
everyone, but also invites innovation. The scholarship committee that reviews the
applications is looking for well rounded students who show leadership qualities, and excel in
academics and community service. Part of what we do at the foundation is look
out for the community. And part of our mission in giving back I think
is really crystallized by our decision to not only focus on the community at large but
also to focus on the people that are so fundamental to our success. So naturally giving to the children of the
employees of Mount Sinai falls right in line with everything that we stand for. The diverse group of scholarship winners is
announced in this exciting ceremony where it’s hard to contain some very proud parents. I’m very proud of Monique in being the winner
of this uh, Sons and Daughters scholarship here at Mount Sinai Medical Center. And these scholarships are the gifts that
keep on giving. Many of our past winners have gone on to careers
in medicine with some even returning to Mount Sinai to work. People like Kelly Padron, who says her scholarship
changed her life. I was going to school full time, I was working
full time. So winning the Young Presidents Club Sons
and Daughters scholarship really allowed me to accomplish one of my biggest goals, which
was earning my Bachelor’s degree of business management. It helped me really change my life. The Sons and Daughters program, just another
way Mount Sinai takes care of South Florida.
