Julio Jones: Unmatched

Julio Jones is the best wide receiver in the NFL. If I’m starting a team and you tell me I can pick one wide receiver that’s who I’m picking. The answer is Julio Jones. It’s just unmatched. Nobody else is moving around like Julio Jones. No one else is catching the football the ways that Julio Jones is. Of course the numbers matter but so does the professionalism. The commitment to excellence and the desire to make a name for yourself strictly on the field of play. Not in the headlines because Julio Jones is a football player. Paid to play football. Focused strictly on his job description. He knows what’s required to become a champion. And, he knows what to prioritize as well. The impact that Julio has both on the field and off the field, is remarkable. He’s one of the best teammates that I’ve had the chance to coach. And by that I mean it’s all the interactions that he has not just with the receivers with the quarterbacks, but with offensive linemen, defensive backs. He’s a guy that is always extremely well prepared going into a game. Knows his assignment inside and out. He expects everyone in the room to play at a high level. He’s a really good, you know, teacher. His ability to talk across the ball, whether he’s going against a corner at practice, helping another receiver with a certain route, or something they may struggle with, all the work behind the scenes they don’t show up on the stats sheet. For that, we’re always grateful. But he’s also a good time. He’s a lot of fun in the locker room. He loves to mess around with the guys whether it be playing ping pong, playing cards, doing all kinds of different stuff. He’s very inclusive. He’s hilarious. He’s very, very funny. He likes to have fun. He plays around all day but he doesn’t really show that outside of the building or on the field too much. He has a really good sense of humor. You know, it can be intimidating when you come into our locker room and you’re one of the new guys and Julio Jones is there. He’s very welcoming and a lot of fun to be around. I’ve been lucky to play with him as long as I have. Jones is open. Down the far sideline, Julio is in the end zone! Now for the exciting part. The on the field things that he brings. It’s the combination of the size, his ability to stop, and his ability to jump. Physicality. I think that’s unmatched at that position. I think DB’s will tell you the same thing. There’s no one like him. No disrespect to any other receiver, but I got to say he’s one of the best. His ability to set routes up, Some people really don’t know how good of route runner he is and how smart he is, and his ability to have a game plan for the way people are going to cover him and know exactly what he’s going to do in certain situations, makes him one of the easiest guys to throw to. How they double team him and he still manages to get open, and get all these yards and get all these catches, he’s one of the best players I’ve ever seen and I watch a lot of receivers and film. Beyond that, he’s just an unbelievable competitor. So you have all of these unbelievable traits like he’s a hard worker, he’s extremely talented but he also has this competitive drive that is rare. You don’t see that from guys very often. His mindset to go after the ball, compete and finish… you know he is a true warrior.
