My name is Mourmita Choudhury and I was born in Calcutta, India. I received my bachelor’s degree in medicine in India. I decided to pursue research and came to Oakland University to earn my master’s in biomedical sciences. Biology is a field that was appealing since I was a kid because I have that in my family, my dad, my sister. Everybody is in biology so I grew up in that kind of environment. Starting from a plant to an animal, everything was pretty interesting for me. (Now this is your muscle. As we can see we have circular muscles inside and longitudinal muscles outside. The circular..) I like to teach kids but I know and I try. I wanna see those blank faces filled with information when they leave the class. I love biology so teaching biology was not a problem for me. I know the material, the problem was the style. So there came the CETL, which is Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning. And they helped me because I was from a different country I didn’t know the style of teaching in this country that much. So they helped me a lot. I met other international students here in the department, also in the library, in the campus. And we all make a nice group when we hang around together. We chat sometimes when there is a problem we can share our thoughts because all of us are going through the same phase of life. Look into which field you wanna go into to. First, look into the mentors you wanna choose for the rest of your studies here. Any other intentional students coming to Oakland, they should be very comfortable because it’s an awesome place to begin your life.
