International Experience Scholarship – Junping Ren
Daniella: Hi Junping, thanks for talking to me.
Junping: Hi. D: I understand that you’re a recipient of the International Experience Scholarship? J: Yes, yes.
D: Can you tell me your name and what your degree is? J: Yes, yes. My name is Junping Ren and I am currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Civil Engineering. This is my fourth year, fourth year on the PhD program. D: So it’s near the end of it?
J: Yes, yes. D: I understand you went to the U.S.? J: Yes, I went to a university called Case Western Reserve University which is located in Cleveland, Ohio. D: For a semester or a couple of weeks?
J: For three months, from May to the end of July. D: What did you do? Because I understand there was a research opportunity? J: Yes, I went there for the exchange and research. But because it was a short time so I didn’t have a chance to do tests but I did some literature reviews and had some discussions with a student who is working on the same topic as me D: So, is that going to impact directly your PhD at this point when it’s nearing the end or how else do you think this will impact your future career? J: It helped me to think about my research itself and also as I mentioned for future, I’ve met some students I’ve met some students working in the same area with me, so for the future career I’ll have, it’s a little bit easier for us to contact each other and help each other. D: Especially because your pitches are examining a very specific area. J: Yes, yes. D: Well thank you for talking to me.
J: Thank you. Need funding for an opportunity abroad?
