High schoolers help victims of Goodman tornado

CRAIG: WHAT IS STORY. ONE GROUP OF HIGH SCHOOLERS REACHED OUT TO THOSE THAT WERE IN THE TORNADOES PATH. 40/29’S KATIE DAVIDSON SPENT THE AFTERNOON WITH THEM AS THEY HELPED. KATIE, WHAT INSPIRED THEM TO G REPORTER: WHEN THOSE STUDENTS HEAR ABOUT THE DAMAGE THAT HIT ACROSS GOODMAN, THEY KNEW THEY WANTED TO GET OUT AND HELP. THEY SPENT ALL DAY TODAY WALKING DOOR-TO-DOOR CHECKING ON RESIDENTS AND OFFERING ASSISTANCE. PILED INTO THE BACK OF A PICK UP TRUCK MCDONALD COUNTY HI SCHOOLERS SPENT THEIR AFTERNOON DRIVING ACROSS GOODMAN.>>WE’RE DRIVING DOWN C, BACK TO THESE APARTMENTS OVER HERE, JUST TO SEE IF THEY HAVE ANY DAMAGE, OR ANY SERVICES WE COULD OFFER THEM. REPORTER: THEY WALKED FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE ASKING HOMEOWNERS H THEY WERE DOING AND WHAT THEY COULD HELP WITH.>>WE’RE JUST COMING TO SEE IF YOU HAVE ANY DAMAGE TO REPORT. REPORTER: THE STUDENT RESOURCE OFFICER TOLD ME HE WAS ASKED TO HELP THE RELIEF EFFORT AND WHEN HE MENTIONED IT TO A FEW STUDENTS THEY JUMPED AT THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP OTHERS.>>I KNOW I SPEAK FOR MYSELF AND OTHER STUDENTS WHEN I SAY, WE JUST HAVE A HEART FOR OUR COMMUNITY WE LOVE THIS COMMUNITY AND THOUGH ITS PART OF BOTH SCHOOL DISTRICTS, ITS JUST A BIG DEAL FOR OUR COMMUNITY. REPORTER: SOME PEOPLE THEY SPOKE WITH DIDN’T HAVE MUCH DAMAGE BUT FOR THOSE WHO DID THEIR GESTURES MEANT THE WORLD.>>IS WONDERFUL. THIS LITTLE TOWN IS SO CLOSE KNIT. PEOPLE PULL TOGETHER REALLY QUICK. REPORTER: THE STUDENTS WERE ON SCENE FROM ABOUT 1:00 ONWARD AND WERE LATER JOINED BY ANOTH GROUP OF STUDENTS.>>OUR PARENTS HAD TO SIGN US OUT OF SCHOOL TODAY FOR US TO BE HERE, BUT OUR PRINCIPAL AND ADMINISTRATORS HAVE KIND OF TAKEN UP THE SAME HEART THAT WE HAVE, AND ALLOWED US TO BE HERE WITH AN EXCUSED ABSENC REPORTER: IN ADDITION T CHECKING ON RESIDENTS, THEY WERE ALSO INFORMING PEOPLE ABOUT THE SHELTER THAT HAS BEEN SET UP OUTSIDE OF TOWN AT THE SPLIT LOG BAPTIST CHURCH. MANY PEOPLE ARE STILL WITHOUT POWER SO THAT SHELTER HAS HEAT
