One is forced to either level-up with their whacked system or have your child sitting home indefinitely. I'm a native German and whenever I hear anything in Dutch, I can understand at least 30% of it. When there are similar words used in Dutch like in German speaker it is pretty funny to hear how the words which are similar in Dutch are pronounced while German sounds really serious to me. Reply Wong Tik Ki says: February 13, 2019 at 3:44 pm A lot of flexibility when it comes to secondary education… Back in Hong Kong the whole secondary school period has only one aim – prepare students for university education. 'So what about the kids that is not capable/suitable for the acdemia?' 'They can go on to colleges for associate degree, higher diploma, diploma. Or trade school and vocational school'. 'But they will get fucked in the standardized public university entry exam!' 'Yes they will, it will make them feel like a losser for the rest of their life. Some student may not be able to answer even a single question, because you know, the exam is designed to screen people for university, like the rest of our education system!' Reply Lycaon1765p says: February 15, 2019 at 10:55 pm I looked up the wikipedia page about this cuz I was reading a webtoon, called "acception" I think it was, and it was set in a Dutch "high school". The fact that they called it high school was confusing since I didn't think people in other countries would have the same system the US has. :vThe wikipedia page just made me more confused lmao. Reply Bunyip swamp says: February 16, 2019 at 8:22 am Wait I been to college? Reply __ says: February 16, 2019 at 12:00 pm Ah! So it essentially looks like a more complicated version of the German system where you eventually go into either Gymnasium, Hauptschule, or Realschule. (native germans feel free to correct me, I'm english, but have some german family) Reply Jayce says: February 16, 2019 at 11:09 pm While the amount of options is fascinating it's super convoluted. Our school system can use some work but is generally a straight line. Elementary:Age 2-5 preschool (essentially social learning)5-6 kindergarten (entry skills letters, numbers, writing and reading)Grade 1 – 3 division oneGrade 4 – 6 division two Jr high:Grade 7 – 9 Highschool:Grade 10-12 Post:Continuing education (usually 1 year programs to pick up extra skills like typing, higher reading and such)Certificate college (low level job specific programs such as secretary, florist…)College (higher level diplomas and transfer programs like development therapist)University (2-8 years for your big programs, teacher, doctor)Technical institution (trade learning. Repair jobs, construction, design…)Apprenticeship school (extra learning on stuff that can't be learned on the job) Within all of that we then have public, private, religious, residential and bilingual. Including me. This is rare, but you can perform really well to skip years which I did once in Groep 3, allowing me to finish basisschool at age 11 (And everyone was surprised when I told them my age, it got super annoying to explain it over and over). Also you can be put into the wrong equivalent of year/grade due to age, potentially skipping or redoing years. Reply Shooter Kip says: February 28, 2019 at 10:22 am I was really happy when I found out that there was a animator I like was dutch Reply Salmiak says: March 2, 2019 at 5:31 pm I think the main difference between HBO and WO is that WO prepares you for academics, and HBO prepares you for a higher level job. So if you would like to do research ir a PHD, or teach university, you really need to do WO. Also, in the Netherlands, HBO is not called university. A HBO BA is considered to be a university degree outside of the Netherlands only, which I think is rather interesting and strange. Anyway, Dutch people are extremely well and highly educated compared to most other countries, so we must do something right. When you are in year 3 you can choose something called: profiel (really roughly translated is profile but it's nothing like the profile you know) there are 4 different “profielen”; natuur&techniek (n roughly translated nature and technique so a lot of physics) natuur en gezondheid (roughly translated nature and health meaning a lot of biology) economie en maatschappij (economics and society meaning a lot of economic based) and cultuur and maatschappij (culture and society meaning a lot of art based subjects) each “profiel” has a different “vakkenpakket” (subjectpackage) they all have 3(?) mandatory subjects and then students will have to choose all the different types of subjects they want to add to that. Certain subjects can not ben ombine with certain “profielen” so you will have to figure that out, but for example if you chose a economics and society “profiel” but you really like Geography (which is added in culture and society) you have the option to take it as an extra subject. I hope this sort of makes sense Reply Reminul says: April 13, 2019 at 9:33 pm I'm in the Basicsschool (Groep 7) and i still know all of this Reply Meisje Elise says: April 13, 2019 at 9:46 pm Im dutch IM FRICKING DUTCH Reply k.a. says: April 14, 2019 at 7:54 am Gymnasium is toch de hoogste niveau die je kan doen Reply C.Y. Reply RandomVideos says: July 9, 2019 at 6:47 pm Some things in this video aren't right:1. The highest education on high school is not VWO but Gymnasium. It is almost similar to VWO but with Ancient Greek and Latin. Eventhough the small differences you do get a different diploma. 2. MAVO doesn't exists anymore. It is now called –> VMBO-TL ( theoretical learning path) and VMBO GL (mixed learning path). It depends what way you choose. 3. It is possible after you finished VMBO-TL (not GL) to go to HAVO for 2 years and finish HAVO.
