Chevening Scholarships – Bidhya Sharma
Bangor happens to be really famous back in
my country. My supervisor and a few of my colleagues have studied here and it really
had a good fame. So when I was looking for the universities, they really recommended
me to come here, so yes, that’s how it all started. One of the main reasons that I came
here was also – not just the university – but also the course as it’s very specific here
in Bangor. So I’m doing Wetland Science. UK is the best place to the course. So it’s very
practical – we are in the field almost once every week and we have long field trips so
apart from my professors, my tutors and for my class mates I think the outdoor activity
that we have is the best part of my course, which not only makes me to be in the UK but
also be a tourist here – I can go to see new areas and also learn at the same time, so
I think that’s the best part of my course. It’s amazing here, and because we have a small
class – just 10 of us, so we can take most of the time from our tutors. We have very
good relations and we go and bug them all the time and they have been very supportive.
Being in a new country, in a new environment, it was really tough at start, but all the
help they gave and all the support that they were constantly there so that made a different.
Also the library facilities – you can go at any time – even midnight. And also student
support at the International Office. I took support from every part of the university,
and yeah it’s really amazing here. I don’t know if my words can do justice for a Chevening
Scholarship. It’s not only for the funding that we get from Chevening but also all the
support and we have events almost every week, so we really have to juggle what we want to
do so I can connect with people who are on a similar course but I can also connect with
people who are doing different things and learn from them and grow. So I think networking
and that it’s very eventful – I think those two are the best thing about a Chevening Scholarship.
A part of me has fallen in love with this place – north Wales – it’s been so amazing.
Another part of me wants to go back home to put in practice all the things that I’ve learned
here. There are so many differences here between two countries, where I’m from, but there are
so many things I know can be done when I go back. So I have all these plans of doing studies
in the field that I’m studying, and yeah, I can’t wait to go home and do even the smallest
thing in a good way.
