Aeronautics Maintenance Technology at Honolulu Community College

My name is Jamie Thompson, I’m
24 years old I graduated from St. Bonaventure
High School in Ventura,
California in 2004 and I’m here at HCC studying
their Aeronautics Maintenance
Technician program. I chose Honolulu Community
College mainly for the fact that this is the only school in
the state that offers the Aeronautrics Maintenance
Technician program Some of the best things about
the program are definitely the fact that you get
to get your hands on everything It’s off-campus so we’re here at
the airport where we get to watch the planes
take off every day and land and you know usually your class
is only around 20 to 25 people so working in a smaller group you get to have a lot of one on
one time with your instructor and since everybody is working
together toward the same goal we can kinda work off each
other, learn from each other and It’s a lot of fun. My overall student experience,
uhm it’s been a fun one It’s definitely hard though. put in five days a week, 7am to
2pm so aside from having no free
time and only the time on the
weekends to work, it’s been a good experience. I’m learning a lot and I really feel like I’ve gained a
good grasp on aeronautics
maintenance. My advice to someone who’s
looking to enter into the Aero
program would definitely be, you know, if you’re not sure if it’s the
right thing for you, that’s ok. I didn’t know a 100% if I was
going to like it or not but I knew that I really wanted
to try it and I wanted to put a 100% in.
